Hey. This is an quill pen drawing on paper of the Flatiron Building at 23rd Street, Manhattan.
The process began with general pencil lines, followed by quill pen and ink never quite gets to the point of painstaking adherence to the architectural form. There was window counting for each floor to but not much more.

New drawings! I did them in central park. Actually the first I drew in central park and the one of the building was done at the corner of 5th Avenue and 59th Street. It's a tall 22+- story building that is elaborately decorated. It was a clear early evening and the blue sky shone in the late afternoon light with an almost never ending hanging on of the last of the day.
Of course as usual; done in quill pen and neutral grey ink. And of course it's an homage to Vincent Van Gogh, what with the dotted sky background.
The one in the park of the statue was a nod and acknowledgment to death. All the park benches are labeled with a deceased person's name and a summary of what that person enjoyed in life. The statue seems to overlook spring time's fervent and tenacious transformation from stillness in winter to growth and change. A following of one's true innermost passions merging with the season's temperate April breeze and the growing manifestation of life. Relentless,
retreating not, until fall's golden age leads to life's eventual and ultimate, letting go.
The drawing seems to be encouraging the viewer to follow the spring season toward an as of yet unrealized, and obscure summer. And to push your seeds on toward that summer day when they might surprise even the planter with bounty as yet hidden. Change is occurring now. And the statue seems to offer a contrast; a reminder that throwing caution to the wind is perhaps, the only choice for the inhabitant of April.

Obama original oil painting portrait, 14" X 18"

This is an original Barack Obama portrait that I painted yesterday. It's 14"x 18", oil on canvas, signed and dated by the artist (me). I originally painted this portrait to attract attention to my portrait business. However, a friend suggested I post it on ebay. I immediately agreed and as you can see, it is now on ebay. Auction ends on "Apr-02-08 22:35:12 PDT". Starting bid is only $.99 cents.
Someone commented that the painting captures Obama's contagious smile.

Last night in Greenwich Village

These two were drawings below were made last night during a café hop/draw. Both are pen and ink with gouache paint on paper, 11"x14".
The people were not asked if it would be alright to draw them. To do so might have changed the energy; toward them being self conciouse.

my thoughts

I went to Moma yesterday. I saw the the Puryear and the Seurat shows. I was impressed by the large scale and craftsmanship of Puryear's sculptural forms. The massive shapes were indeed well crafted and geometrical yet organic.
The Seurat show was expansive, with many drawings! Most of them in conte crayon or charcoal. I noticed his small oil paintings which were only the size of my laptop screen.
